CASE STUDY: How we grew organic traffic from

1,000 to 50,000 visitors per month

Local Walks.

Introduction:

Local Walks is a leading provider of GPS walking apps, which showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of various regional destinations. The apps work like sat-nav for footpaths and guides users around 1500+ (and growing) glorious walking routes using their mobile phone.

As a digital marketing agency, our team carried out the design and build of the website and implemented an all-encompassing SEO strategy to grow the online visibility and drive organic traffic.

Objective:

The primary objective for Local Walks was to establish a strong online presence and increase the website traffic through organic search and not PPC (pay per click). The aim was to achieve page one rankings for 100% of target keywords. A secondary objective was to start building an online social community where users could recommend new local walks and share their adventures.

Website Design and Development:

We crafted a modern and fresh website design that not only showcased the beauty of their walking destinations, it also provided valuable and useful user content including destination blogs and walking route maps. The website was built with a mobile-responsive design to ensure optimal performance across all devices, with a focus on design, usability, and functionality.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Strategy:

To maximise the visibility of Local Walks in search engine results and drive targeted organic traffic, we implemented a solid SEO strategy which included several key components:

Keyword Research: We conducted extensive keyword research to identify the most relevant and high-traffic keywords related to walking based searches. Some of these keywords were highly competitive so we also developed a range of topic clusters and mini-plans for these. This enabled us to optimise and structure the website's content, meta tags, URL’s and headings to align with user search intent.

Competitor Analysis: Our team analysed the digital presence of Local Walks' competitors to identify areas of opportunity and gain insights into effective SEO strategies within the industry. This helped us fine-tune our approach and rank ahead of the competition.

Backlink Strategy: We developed a robust backlink strategy to improve the website's authority and search engine rankings. By securing high-quality backlinks from reputable sources within the travel and tourism industry, we enhanced the website's credibility and visibility, which helped result in higher organic rankings.

Content Creation: Our team produced engaging and informative blog posts, videos, guest articles, and web content to establish Local Walks as a thought leader in the walking industry. These pieces of content targeted relevant keywords, attracted organic traffic, and provided value to potential customers.

Results:

Our digital marketing strategy has generated exceptional results:

Rapid Traffic Growth: The Local Walks' website experienced a substantial increase in organic traffic, soaring from 1,000 to an impressive 50,000 monthly visitors. This tremendous growth demonstrates the effectiveness of our SEO strategies and the increased visibility of the website in search engine results.

High Search Engine Rankings: Through research, optimisation and strategic implementation of targeted keywords, the Local Walks' website has achieved page one rankings on Google for hundreds of it’s primary target keywords and is rapidly approaching our 100% target. This prominent positioning allowed them to capture a significant share of organic search traffic and attract potential customers actively seeking the best local walks.

Enhanced Brand Visibility: The clean and visually appealing website design, coupled with effective SEO efforts, has significantly improved Local Walks' brand visibility in the online landscape. They have become recognised as a leading provider of guided walking tours, capturing the attention of their target audience and fostering brand loyalty.

Social communities: We started by building regional Facebook pages and have now started building regional groups which allow users to get more involved and share their experiences. We already have over 100,000 Facebook followers and groups like the Hertfordshire Walks group which has over 20,000 members alone.

Conclusion:

Our successful approach to website design, SEO strategy, and content creation has delivered exceptional results, with a substantial increase in organic traffic and top rankings for hundreds of high-traffic keywords. The website has not only attracted visitors but also reinforced Local Walks' brand image and established them as an industry authority. This is just the beginning, as more walks and regions are added to the apps, the website will grow, the content will grow and the traffic will grow.
